Job summary

University of Bristol in Bristol seeks a Research Associate or Senior Research Associate to join a British Heart Foundation-funded programme studying neural control of cardioprotection and cardiac microcirculation. The project uses in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo methods, including viral vector mapping and human cell models.

Hybrid work is not available. Salary ranges: £39,906–£44,746 (Grade I) or £44,746–£50,253 (Grade J) per annum; 2-year initial funding; apply by 28/10/2026.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience with in vivo surgical procedures in rodents.
• Experience with multi-technique projects spanning in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo.
• Ability to design and execute complex experimental plans and contribute to publications.

Responsibilities

• Plan, carry out and analyse experiments spanning in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo approaches.
• Perform in vivo surgical procedures (myocardial infarction/heart failure) and stereotaxic viral vector injections.
• Design viral vectors for neuronal circuit mapping and perform cell culture with primary and human-derived models.
• Engage in advanced in vivo imaging (laser Doppler/laser speckle, echocardiography) and data analysis.
• Senior role: lead complex projects, manage mouse colonies, contribute to manuscripts and grants.
