Job Description:

The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled researcher to work on a nutrition and metabolism research project investigating the effects of a very-low carbohydrate (ketogenic) diet on colorectal cancer risk. The project involves sample analysis for a Randomised Controlled Trial, comprehensive phenotyping using state-of-the-art omics approaches, and linking these to colorectal cancer risk through Mendelian randomization.

The successful candidate will work within Dr Vincent’s interdisciplinary research group in Translational Health Sciences at the University of Bristol, joining a vibrant team. This research is supported by Cancer Research UK and conducted in partnership with co-investigators at the University of Bath, Imperial College London, and the University of Cambridge.

The role is based within Bristol Medical School, with line management provided by Dr Emma Vincent, Associate Professor in Molecular Metabolism.

What will you be doing?
  • Coordinate and perform sample analysis, data collection, analysis, and administration.
  • Perform Mendelian randomization analyses and write up findings for publication.
  • Utilize state-of-the-art techniques including omics data handling, Mendelian randomization, controlled dietary interventions, blood biochemistry, indirect calorimetry, tissue biopsy handling and analysis, and laboratory-based cell biology.
  • Coordinate the work of others, disseminate research findings, produce reports, and write peer-reviewed articles.
  • Support other students and staff by providing methodological advice and training.
Qualifications and experience
  • A Ph.D. in a relevant subject (e.g., nutrition, metabolism, genetic epidemiology) is essential.
  • Experience in performing genetic epidemiological analyses and managing studies involving human volunteers, sample collection, and data management.
  • Excellent oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills, with an innovative research approach for project development, implementation, and delivery.
