About the Department

About the Role

This position entails conducting laboratory analysis of human blood serum samples to determine their carotenoid concentration utilizing HPLC analysis. This research constitutes a component of a comprehensive Epidemiological investigation conducted at Deakin University, Australia. The successful candidate will extract carotenoids from human blood serum according to established laboratory protocols and prepare the extracts for HPLC analysis. The position necessitates handling biohazards including human blood, with hepatitis B vaccination strongly recommended. This position requires reproducible and reliable laboratory analysis, meticulous documentation and sample management. Responsibilities include HPLC data analysis, subsequent processing, calculation, and comprehensive reporting utilizing structured Excel databases.

Ideal Candidate

The optimal candidate will possess an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in life sciences (biomedical science, nutrition, human physiology, or related fields) with demonstrated experience in handling biological hazards, particularly human blood. The candidate should demonstrate independent working capabilities with initiative, creativity, and analytical judgment to resolve technical challenges and produce results. Previous laboratory experience (minimum 6 months) is required, along with proficient laboratory techniques to establish and execute reproducible and reliable laboratory analysis, with precise documentation and the ability to perform laboratory calculations. Prior experience with HPLC analysis would be advantageous, including data processing, calculation, and reporting utilizing comprehensive Excel databases.
