The role

We are looking for a Senior Research Analyst to work in a close-knit group of analysts based in Oxford, who are charged with meeting the needs of our clients in the global sugar sector.

The role involves undertaking detailed economic, quantitative, market analysis, and research assignments. These include forecasting supply and demand, price outlook, policy analysis, performance/cost of production benchmarking, as well as carrying out bespoke consulting projects for our clients. Examples include feasibility studies, market-specific price outlooks, and policy analysis.

What you'll be doing

• Carrying out analysis and forecasts supporting the weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual services of the sugar research team.
• Tracking and forecasting sugar supply, demand, price, and policy developments in key geographies.
• Overseeing the maintenance and organization of the database underpinning the analysis.
• Managing consulting projects with support from other team members.
• Developing detailed knowledge of the sugar industry to offer expertise to our clients.
• Liaising with industry stakeholders (grower associations, producers, consumers, policymakers); occasional research trips may be involved.

The work demands individuals with intelligent, enquiring, and analytical minds, capable of applying microeconomic and statistical analysis in real-world situations.

We seek someone with or eager to acquire detailed knowledge of the sugar sector. The successful candidate will be able to articulate economic ideas in rigorous yet simple language, understanding the policies, market trends, and structural changes shaping the sector.

Applicants with a background in agricultural economics (Masters or above) are preferred but not essential for the right candidate.
