Job Description:

Job Purpose

The Senior Refrigeration Engineer plays a crucial role in delivering PPM, reactive, and testing work streams, while providing technical support to all maintenance teams across the sites. The role involves supervising, influencing, and building strong relationships with customers, internal teams, and regional engineers.

This position is responsible for planning and leading refrigeration teams to ensure all services meet the required standards and comply with regulatory and company standards. Additionally, overseeing technical standards within operations is a key responsibility.

You will serve as the technical expert and key account holder for FGas compliance, ensuring obligations are met to maintain ongoing membership. Supporting and guiding engineers through training is also part of the role.

Managing budgets and service delivery cost-effectively, while ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations, is essential.

Key Accountabilities

  • Represent the company professionally and develop good working relationships with site and maintenance technicians and customer employees.
  • Ensure maintenance services, including reactive and PPM, are covered across all sites.
  • Provide technical support and coaching to regional technicians.
  • Monitor KPI performance, understand underperformance issues, and implement improvement plans.
  • Support the Divisional Account Manager on technical, personnel, and FM process issues.
  • Provide coverage for the Divisional Account Manager during absences.
  • Complete reports and compliance documentation, addressing any issues identified.
  • Audit FM documentation and address non-compliance issues.
  • Respond promptly to Help Desk calls, resolving issues effectively and escalating when necessary.
  • Participate in meetings with managers and technicians to communicate updates and issues.
  • Maintain regular communication with the customer regarding FM activities.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Participate in recruitment and selection of technician staff.
  • Adhere to health and safety legislation and company processes.
  • Perform any other reasonable management requests.

This role also involves identifying and delivering business development opportunities within the budget, managing capital plans and projects jointly with the customer, ensuring they are completed to scope and within budget to maximize value and service.

People Responsibility

The role currently manages a team of experienced regional store and maintenance technicians, with potential for team expansion as the business grows.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • NVQ in Refrigeration or equivalent qualification
  • City and Guilds 2079 refrigerant handling certification
  • At least 5 years of refrigeration experience
  • Ability to repair and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment such as fans, pumps, and compressors
  • Knowledge of maintenance services within the FM industry, including PPM and compliance, preferably in a multi-client environment
  • Experience in leading and managing teams effectively
  • Ability to develop client relationships at a senior level is advantageous
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and project management skills
  • Results-oriented with accountability for performance
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Highly flexible, proactive, and capable of handling challenges with a flexible approach
