Job Title: Senior Veterinary Receptionist (line manager role)

Location: Huddersfield

Salary: GBP14.50 - GBP15.90 per hr average, dependant on age and experience

Job type: Part Time · Permanent

Hours: 24 hours per week Mon-Thu rotation shifts 7.30-1.30 or 12.30-18.30; Saturdays on rota

Holidays: 31 days start (inc stat), increase to 34 with service (pro rata)

About The Role

Donaldsons are recruiting for a Senior receptionist to lead and manage the team of 9 reception staff at our Thongsbridge surgery. This will include managing performance, supporting team development and related administration. Previous management experience is essential. Veterinary reception experience is preferred although training will be given.

Main Duties Will Include

  • Leading and motivating the reception team
  • Rota management and planning
  • General management and record keeping, eg appraisals, probation reviews, return to works, 1:1s, coaching sessions and using SageHR

Within the role, you will also ensure that daily duties as per below are completed in a timely manner:

  • Prompt and efficient answering of calls
  • Greeting of clients on arrival
  • Arrange appointments, register clients and pets, invoices, process payments
  • Liaise with clients, book any follow up appointments and ensure payments are made
  • Ensure the smooth running of appointments and admissions for vets and nurses
  • Monitor client flow from check in to discharge
  • Assess the urgency of a pet’s condition when booking emergency appointments with guidance
  • Give advice on nurse/vet clinics, cost of treatments, insurance and payments
  • Take excess payments for insured clients, complete claim form before the client leaves the practice
  • Ethically promote the (VIP) pet health care plan and pet insurance
  • Answer basic questions from clients on practice policy, neutering, vaccinations and pre-op advice
  • Develop preventative health care knowledge to be able to provide advice in line with practice protocols on topics such as flea, worm treatment, vaccination and diet
  • Resolve, assist accordingly with any complaints or queries received
  • General clerical duties including filing, photocopying, emailing and scanning
