Job summary

Laing O’Rourke seeks a Principal Engineer – Rebar specialist to lead senior technical direction for reinforcement manufacturing. You will guarantee design outputs meet standards, govern governance across multidisciplinary teams, and drive live delivery excellence in a cutting‑edge digital manufacturing environment.

You will shape manufacturing strategy, mentor engineers, and act as the primary technical interface with clients and stakeholders, ensuring buildability from detailing to preassembly

Qualifications

• Extensive leadership experience as chief/lead engineer or similar.
• Experience leading engineering functions on major civil/nuclear/infrastructure programmes.
• Expertise in reinforcement engineering, including rebar detailing, modelling, assembly and preassembly.
• Proven ability to govern and interface with client and third‑party design organisations.
• Strong people management and mentoring skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering governance, including reviews, audits and technical assurance activities.
• Manage engineering resource allocation and workload across programme packages.
• Act as the primary technical contact for clients, detailers and stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and client requirements.
• Develop and improve engineering processes, procedures and controls.
• Oversee rebar detailing, models and manufacturing concepts to ensure buildability.
• Establish document control, design review cycles and change management processes.
• Mentor and develop engineers to build capability across the team.
• Contribute to business case development and manufacturing strategy.
• Represent engineering in senior programme and leadership forums.
