A new opportunity has arisen for a Senior Underwriter to join a high-performing and well-regarded Real Estate division at a leading global insurer. This division is a standout within the UK business, with a reputation for profitable growth and success across several specialist areas.

This is a key hire, created due to continued portfolio growth. The role offers real ownership and the chance to make an impact across underwriting, broker engagement, portfolio development and performance.

You’ll be joining a financially strong and thriving organisation with a sophisticated, data-led approach and modern technology to support informed, efficient decision-making. Based in the Birmingham office – one of the most modern and well-equipped in the city – you’ll work alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment.

What you'll be doing:

• Underwriting new business on a case-by-case and account level within the Real Estate portfolio
• Working alongside a team of BDMs, developing and managing broker relationships to support profitable growth
• Owning and driving portfolio performance – identifying trends, making refinements, and contributing to guide development
• Running broker-facing workshops to build engagement and strengthen understanding of appetite and approach
• Reviewing and evolving underwriting guidelines to ensure alignment with strategy and market conditions
• Supporting governance and compliance, ensuring best practices are followed across the portfolio
• Taking an active role in strategic planning, reporting and contributing to wider business initiatives

What you'll bring:

• A minimum of 5 years experience underwriting UK Real Estate risks, or general Commercial Property risks
• A thoughtful and analytical approach, with the ability to interpret data and apply sound judgment
• Confidence working with brokers and building long-term partnerships
• A proactive mindset, with a focus on continuous improvement and development
• Strong technical skills and understanding of underwriting frameworks, processes, and controls
