Job summary

Arcadis is seeking a Senior Rail Drainage Engineer to lead drainage design for rail and infrastructure projects in the Rail North West & Central team. You will deliver surface water, foul water and SUDS solutions, and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure designs meet programme and client requirements.

You will review calculations, mentor junior engineers, and liaise with authorities to secure approvals, while upholding Arcadis standards and quality outputs across projects.

Qualifications

• BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng, or equivalent, in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Relevant experience in drainage design for infrastructure projects; rail experience is preferred but not essential.
• Experience with surface water, foul water, SUDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage.
• Experience using drainage design or hydraulic modelling software.
• Experience preparing and checking technical deliverables.
• Understanding of approvals and consents processes involving relevant authorities.
• Ability to provide technical guidance to junior team members.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status with a professional institution desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop drainage solutions covering surface water, foul water, SUDS, earthworks drainage and rail/highways drainage.
• Use relevant drainage design and modelling tools, such as Infodrainage and CivilStorm to support technical delivery.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure drainage solutions are integrated into wider project designs.
• Support the preparation of approvals and consents from relevant authorities, including LLFAs and Water Authorities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and technicians.
• Identify and manage design risks, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and Arcadis requirements.
• Liaise with clients, stakeholders and project teams to support successful project delivery.
