Arup in the United Kingdom is seeking a Senior Rail Civils Engineer to join our growing Rail Civils team in Manchester or Glasgow. You will lead civil engineering input on multidisciplinary rail projects, translating client needs into robust design solutions.
You will provide technical leadership, review drawings and calculations, manage design risk and work with delivery partners throughout the project lifecycle. Mentoring colleagues and advancing digital delivery are encouraged.
Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach have set us apart for 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
Our North Rail team brings together multidisciplinary specialists to help deliver complex and transformative rail projects across the UK. Our current portfolio includes ScotRail Intercity Replacement Fleet Depot Enhancements, TransPennine Route Upgrade West of Leeds, Northern Powerhouse Rail and Metro to Washington.
We are looking for a Senior Rail Civils Engineer to join our growing team in Manchester or Glasgow. This is an opportunity to take a leading technical role in the design and delivery of multidisciplinary rail projects, while helping develop our Rail Civils capability and supporting the next generation of engineers.
As a Senior Rail Civils Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering complex multidisciplinary rail projects, using your technical expertise and engineering judgement to develop effective, safe and innovative design solutions.
You will lead the civil engineering input across projects, interpreting client requirements and determining appropriate design solutions from feasibility through scheme and detailed design. This is a client-facing role, where you will build trusted relationships, understand client needs, communicate technical solutions clearly and work collaboratively with clients and delivery partners throughout the project lifecycle.
You will provide technical leadership to our Rail Civils team, including reviewing drawings, calculations and technical documentation, managing design risks and supporting Safe by Design, CDM and Common Safety Method processes. Experience acting as a Contractor’s Responsible Engineer (CRE) on Network Rail projects would be particularly valuable.
You will support others by mentoring apprentices, graduates, technicians and engineers, sharing best practice, and helping colleagues achieve professional qualifications. We also welcome ideas using digital delivery, automation, coding and AI to improve design quality, collaboration and efficiency.
