Job summary

Arup seeks a Project Manager, Rail to join a multidisciplinary team and contribute to a varied portfolio of rail projects across the UK. You will coordinate engineering and design activities, manage interfaces, monitor plans and budgets, and maintain clear client and partner communications throughout the bid and project lifecycle.

You will report to a Senior Project Manager, collaborating with discipline heads to build relationships and deliver value.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience supporting or managing multidisciplinary rail design projects.
• Experience as Assistant, Junior or Project Manager within rail, transport infrastructure or a similarly complex environment.
• A degree or equivalent qualification; interest in professional development and chartership; APM Qualification advantageous.
• Willingness to travel to client or project sites across the UK.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Project Manager, Rail to join our multidisciplinary team, based in Glasgow, Manchester or York. You will contribute to a varied portfolio of rail projects, working with our design teams throughout the bid and project lifecycle.

You will support the successful delivery of projects against agreed programme, budget, quality and commercial objectives. Your responsibilities will include coordinating engineering and design activities, managing technical interfaces, monitoring project plans and budgets, and maintaining clear communication with clients, project teams and delivery partners.

Reporting to a Senior Project Manager and working closely with discipline Technical Heads, you will build trusted relationships, share knowledge and support continuous improvement across our Rail business. Is this role right for you?

We are looking for people who have:

Relevant experience supporting or managing multidisciplinary rail design projects, with an understanding of requirements, change, programme, cost, quality and commercial management.

Relevant project management experience, ideally gained as an Assistant, Junior or Project Manager within rail, transport infrastructure or a similarly complex environment.

Strong communication, organisation and relationship-management skills, with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and build trusted relationships with clients and delivery partners.

An appropriate degree or equivalent qualification, with an interest in professional development and working towards chartership. An APM Project Management Qualification, or similar, would be advantageous.

A collaborative, proactive and adaptable approach, together with the ability to work independently when needed and travel to client or project sites across the UK.

Experience in areas such as stations, depots, rail systems, rolling stock, freight, electrification, decarbonisation, renewals or remodelling would be beneficial. An interest in innovation, process improvement, data analysis, Power BI or data visualisation would also be welcomed, but is not essential.
