The successful candidate for this Quantum Consultant job will likely come from a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, having gained experience with a contractor, sub-contractor, or similar specialist claims and quantum consultancy.

This role would suit ambitious Consultants currently working within quantum disputes, Quantum Senior Consultants, as well as Quantity Surveyors seeking progression within disputes and who can demonstrate significant claims and quantum experience on live projects/contracts.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assist with the preparation of claims for loss and expense and other contractual entitlements.
  • Assist with the preparation of adjudication documentation.
  • Assist clients, lawyers, and counsel in developing their position where required.
  • Review and assess contemporaneous project records to establish quantum associated with claims and/or disputes.
  • Conduct Quantum Forensic analysis of tender, contract, and claims documentation.
  • Draft written reports, setting out process, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Support the drafting of detailed expert witness reports for use in formal dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Critically analyse project and major programme performance, identifying root causes of distress.
  • Provide strategic advice at all stages of the construction lifecycle.
  • Proactively manage cash flow.
  • Contribute to business development and support colleagues with project deliverables.
  • Develop and pursue claims up or down the supply chain.
  • Research and develop emerging industry-related technologies and stay updated on developments within your technical area.
  • Contribute to client meetings.
  • Support and guide junior staff working on specific tasks.
  • Interface with clients and other consultants at all project stages.
  • Act as an ambassador, championing the Contract Services delivered by the consultancy in the industry.

Desired Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience within a Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management background, preferably with a major building or civil engineering contractor/subcontractor.
  • Experience with claims arising as a contractor or subcontractor's Senior QS or Project QS.
  • Familiarity with claims and formal dispute proceedings.
  • Experience in adjudication from start to finish is desirable but not essential.
  • Good knowledge of common contracts such as NEC, JCT, & FIDIC.
  • Knowledge of relevant applications and technologies like BCIS, Cost-X, CEMAR.
  • Strong report writing skills; candidates with prior report writing experience will be highly regarded.

Qualifications/Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related construction field.
  • Master’s degree in a relevant construction specialty, preferably in construction law (LLM) or similar.
  • Ideally MRICS, MInstCES, or equivalent qualification or working towards Chartership (not essential).
