About the role

As part of our plan to secure a low-carbon energy future, EDF Energy is leading the way in building a fleet of safe, reliable nuclear power stations in the UK. Sizewell C (SZC) is a proposed new nuclear station being developed with a target to start construction at the end of 2023. It is a nationally significant infrastructure project vital to the UK's climate change agenda and energy policy. The project will significantly contribute to reducing carbon emissions in the UK.

The SZC Project Team is a growing, diverse, and collaborative organisation committed to engaging stakeholders, obtaining development consent, and preparing the project for construction.

The Quality function within the Project Delivery Organisation (PDO) is responsible for the Integrated Management System (IMS) and related regulatory Licence Conditions.

What you'll be doing

A Senior Quantity Surveyor is an experienced QS with a proven track record in managing all costs related to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to final figures. They aim to minimise project costs and enhance value for money while maintaining standards and quality. Typically, they will be Chartered Members of RICS, ICES, or CIOB, with experience managing a team of less experienced commercial staff and mentoring others towards professional qualification.

  • Experience in preparing Target Cost for projects
  • Coordination of commercial team to address programme issues
  • Management of Earned Value Management and commercial reports
  • Reporting progress to senior teams
  • Feedback of commercial data to various departments
  • Formulation of resource procurement plans
  • Knowledge of dispute resolution, SCL Protocol, chain management, procurement techniques, estimating, and surveying
  • Management of commercial risks and opportunities, including disallowed costs

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential: BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or equivalent experience
  • Membership of RICS, ICES, or CIOB (or working towards)
  • Desirable: Strong communication, teamwork, leadership, achievement focus, business awareness, and customer orientation
