Are you a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS? Can you reduce cost and risk while maintaining great value? Would you like a company to support your development and encourage further education and training? If yes, then the opportunity below is for you!

The opportunity:

Explore Manufacturing is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS to join the team at the Laing O'Rourke Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction, Europe's largest and most advanced pre-assembly manufacturing facility.

The investment in our purpose-built facility, opened in 2009, combines our construction experience with state-of-the-art processes and technology, providing clients with leaner, smarter, and more cost-efficient options for the built environment.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?

  • Sole responsibility for a project or a section of a project.
  • Perform all Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
  • Prepare and manage interim applications for payment and certify them.
  • Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
  • Manage and report on monthly costs.
  • Draft and prepare claims.
  • Prepare and agree on final accounts.
  • Manage any trainees, assistant QS, or QS on a day-to-day basis.
  • Negotiate with clients' representatives, subcontractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
  • Advise project management on contractual implications of courses of action.
  • Advise on commercial risks within the projects.
  • Prepare and manage monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, and monthly management accounts.
  • Contribute to the Project Business Plan with contractual and commercial input.
  • Assist in establishing the project’s "budget to build" from contract award.
  • Identify and agree on changes and implement change control processes.
  • Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
  • Keep your manager fully informed of any issues or risks affecting the business or project.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  • Experience delivering small to medium projects independently or supporting a commercial manager on larger projects, or managing an area (£25m) of a larger project.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
  • Good knowledge of cost management, including sub-contracts and coins.
  • Experience managing prelims costs.
  • Familiarity with CRF and CiM processes.
  • Desire to learn about risk and opportunity management both internally and with clients.
  • A drive to learn and progress to the next grade.
