The opportunity:
Explore Manufacturing is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS to join the team at the Laing O'Rourke Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction, Europe's largest and most advanced pre-assembly manufacturing facility.
The investment in our purpose-built facility, opened in 2009, combines our construction experience with state-of-the-art processes and technology, providing clients with leaner, smarter, and more cost-efficient options for the built environment.
What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?
- Sole responsibility for a project or a section of a project.
- Perform all Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
- Prepare and manage interim applications for payment and certify them.
- Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
- Manage and report on monthly costs.
- Draft and prepare claims.
- Prepare and agree on final accounts.
- Manage any trainees, assistant QS, or QS on a day-to-day basis.
- Negotiate with clients' representatives, subcontractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining relationships.
- Advise project management on contractual implications of courses of action.
- Advise on commercial risks within the projects.
- Prepare and manage monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, and monthly management accounts.
- Contribute to the Project Business Plan with contractual and commercial input.
- Assist in establishing the project’s "budget to build" from contract award.
- Identify and agree on changes and implement change control processes.
- Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
- Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
- Keep your manager fully informed of any issues or risks affecting the business or project.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
- Experience delivering small to medium projects independently or supporting a commercial manager on larger projects, or managing an area (£25m) of a larger project.
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Good knowledge of cost management, including sub-contracts and coins.
- Experience managing prelims costs.
- Familiarity with CRF and CiM processes.
- Desire to learn about risk and opportunity management both internally and with clients.
- A drive to learn and progress to the next grade.
