Job description

The opportunity:

Expanded Structures, the specialist reinforced concrete basement, sub and superstructure frame construction division of Laing O'Rourke, is currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team on a £100m new build vaccine research centre in Oxford.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?

  1. Sole responsibility for a project or section of a project.
  2. All Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
  3. Preparation and management of interim applications for payment and agreement of certifications.
  4. Drafting, managing, and settling subcontracts.
  5. Management and reporting of monthly costs.
  6. Drafting and preparation of claims.
  7. Preparation and agreement of final accounts.
  8. Day-to-day management of any trainees, assistant quantity surveyors, and/or quantity surveyors.
  9. Negotiating with client's representatives, sub-contractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining good relationships.
  10. Advising project management on contractual implications of planned actions.
  11. Advising on commercial risks within the project(s).
  12. Preparation and management of monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, and monthly management accounts.
  13. Preparation of contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan, as required.
  14. Assisting with establishing the project 'budget to build' from contract award.
  15. Identifying and agreeing on change and implementing change control processes.
  16. Ensuring proper execution of contract documents prior to project commencement.
  17. Communicating clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
  18. Keeping your manager fully informed of any issues or risks that could affect the business or project.

What skills & experience are we looking for?

  1. Experience in delivery, sub, and superstructure.
  2. Knowledge of JCT contracts.
  3. Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management) is desirable.
  4. A desire to learn about risk and opportunity processes, both internally and with clients, and a drive to grow to the next level.
