The opportunity:

Laing O'Rourke is working with Thames Water on a project to ensure Beckton sewage works can cope with London's growing population. We are currently recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Senior QS to join the team.

What will the Senior Quantity Surveyor role look like?
  1. Sole responsibility for a project or section of a project.
  2. All Senior Quantity Surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and agreement of work sections.
  3. Preparation and management of interim applications for payment and agreement of certifications.
  4. Drafting, managing, and settling subcontracts.
  5. Management and reporting of monthly costs.
  6. Drafting and preparation of claims.
  7. Preparation and agreement of final accounts.
  8. Day-to-day management of any trainee, assistant quantity surveyor, or quantity surveyor.
  9. Negotiating with client's representatives, sub-contractors, and other consultants to achieve project results while maintaining group relationships.
  10. Advising project management on contractual implications of courses of action.
  11. Advising on commercial risks within the project(s).
  12. Preparation and management of monthly contract review reports, weekly Business Plan Review (BPR) information, monthly management accounts, and contractual and commercial input into the Project Business Plan.
  13. Assisting with establishing the project “budget to build” from contract award.
  14. Identifying and agreeing on change and implementing change control processes.
  15. Ensuring that contract documents are properly executed prior to project commencement.
  16. Keeping your manager fully advised of any issues or risks that could affect the business or project.
What skills & experience are we looking for?
  1. Infrastructure experience.
  2. Degree qualification in relevant disciplines (Quantity Surveying / Commercial Management, Civil Engineering, Construction Management).
  3. Good knowledge of coins, for both sub-contract and cost management.
  4. A desire to learn the risk and opportunity process, both internal and with our client.
  5. A drive to learn and grow to the next grade.
