Job summary

Morson Edge is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a flagship infrastructure project in Whitehaven, Cumbria. You will lead commercial activity across procurement, cost control and final accounts, managing subcontractor performance and reporting to the commercial leadership.

The role requires NEC contract experience, strong cost reporting skills, and the ability to collaborate with project teams and clients. A degree in QS and security clearance are preferred for this position.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of subcontract management and commercial administration.
  • Experience preparing cost reports, forecasts and commercial reporting.
  • Excellent understanding of NEC contracts (or other standard forms of contract).
  • Strong commercial awareness and negotiation skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively with project teams and clients.
  • Degree qualified (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Able to obtain, or currently hold, the appropriate security clearance.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a leading UK infrastructure contractor delivering a major long-term programme based in Whitehaven, Cumbria.
Working within a high-performing commercial team, youll play a key role in the successful commercial delivery of complex infrastructure projects, managing subcontractors, supporting project leadership and helping to drive commercial performance across the project lifecycle.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Managing Quantity Surveyor, youll provide commercial leadership across a major infrastructure project, ensuring robust contract administration, commercial governance and financial control throughout delivery.
You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, procurement teams and clients to maximise value, manage risk and ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and successfully.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced Quantity Surveyor looking to step into a senior position, or an established Senior Quantity Surveyor seeking a fresh challenge on a flagship infrastructure programme.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commercial Management
  • Manage the commercial administration of major infrastructure projects from procurement through to final account.
  • Administer subcontract packages, including valuations, payments, variations and change management.
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts and commercial performance.
  • Prepare accurate cost reports, forecasts and commercial submissions.
  • Support the preparation of applications for payment and financial reporting.
  • Contract Administration
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and commercial procedures.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts and contractual correspondence.
  • Support the management of change control and compensation events.
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities, implementing mitigation strategies where required.
  • Stakeholder Management
  • Build strong working relationships with project teams, clients and the wider supply chain.
  • Support collaborative working across multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Provide commercial advice to operational teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Team Leadership
  • Mentor and support Assistant Quantity Surveyors and junior commercial staff.
  • Contribute to the development of a high-performing commercial team.
  • Promote continuous improvement and the sharing of best practice.
  • Governance & Performance
  • Ensure commercial reporting is accurate, timely and compliant with project procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of commercial governance throughout the project.
  • Highlight commercial risks, issues and opportunities to senior management.
About You

Youll be a commercially focused professional who enjoys working on complex infrastructure projects and is confident managing both contractual and financial aspects of project delivery.

Essential
  • Experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction or infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of subcontract management and commercial administration.

  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior commercial team members.
