Job summary

Basingstoke/Copthorne based Senior Quantity Surveyor required to take charge of commercial and contractual management on allocated M&E projects. You will support project teams, ensure tender margins, and drive cost/value management across the lifecycle.

Role involves travel and attendance at client offices, with a blended office pattern across our Basingstoke, Copthorne, and Stratford sites. The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of experience and strong negotiation and reporting skills.

Qualifications

• HNC, degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in Quantity Surveying; chartered status would be advantageous.
• 5–10 years of relevant commercial experience within the construction industry at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
• M&E experience desirable and strong technical quantity surveying capability.

Responsibilities

• Take responsibility for all commercial and contractual matters on allocated M&E maintenance and enhancement projects.
• Maintain effective cost management through forecasting, cash forecasting and CVR reporting.
• Prepare and submit client applications, monitor payments and resolve outstanding commercial matters.
• Lead procurement and supply-chain management including subcontractor and supplier tendering, negotiation, valuation and payment.
• Manage change control, variations, valuations and final accounts to maximise revenue and minimise risk.
• Review contract documentation and advise on contractual obligations, notices, risks and opportunities.

Job description

The role will be based out of our Basingstoke (RG21 5PL) or Copthorne (RH6 9TE) office for 2 days per week and will be required to attend the client offices in Stratford 1 day per week.

Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and commercially focused Senior Quantity Surveyor with M&E experience to take responsibility for the commercial and contractual management of allocated projects.

The role will support the Commercial Director, Commercial Manager, Business Managers, Project Managers and project teams in protecting the company’s commercial position, delivering tender margin-plus and ensuring effective cost and value management throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

• Take responsibility for all commercial and contractual matters on allocated M&E maintenance and enhancement projects, protecting the company’s interests and commercial position.
• Maintain effective cost management through accurate forecasting, weekly cash forecasting and monthly cost/value reporting (CVR).
• Prepare and submit client applications, monitor and chase payments, and support the timely resolution of outstanding commercial matters.
• Lead procurement and supply-chain commercial management, including subcontractor and supplier identification, tendering, negotiation, valuation and payment.
• Manage change control, variations, valuations and final accounts to maximise revenue and profit opportunities while reducing commercial risk.
• Review contract documentation and advise project teams on contractual obligations, notices, risks and opportunities to protect the company’s contractual position.
• Work closely with project teams to review programmes, site records, scope, performance and commercial strategy throughout project delivery to identify and manage project scope, risks and opportunities on an ongoing basis,

Skills/Expertise:

• HNC, degree or equivalent higher-level qualification in Quantity Surveying; chartered status would be advantageous.
• At least 5-10 years of relevant commercial experience within the construction industry, with experience operating at Senior Quantity Surveyor level. M&E experience is desirable.
• Strong technical Quantity Surveying capability with proven experience of commercial and contractual management, forecasting and cost/value reporting.
• Strong knowledge of construction contracts, change control, procurement, supply-chain management and commercial risk management.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to provide clear commercial advice to project teams and clients.
• IT proficient, particularly in Microsoft Excel and Word, with strong reporting and numerical skills.
