Job summary

Haughey Recruitment seeks a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing construction business in Magherafelt. The successful candidate will own the commercial performance from procurement through to completion and work closely with operations, design and commercial teams to maintain strict financial control.

The role requires a degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline, strong main-contractor experience, and the ability to travel to project locations across the UK.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Manage commercial and procurement of subcontract packages.
• Prepare and review monthly valuations, cost reports and forecasts.
• Monitor project performance with CVR and management information.
• Manage variations, change control and contractual entitlement.
• Review subcontractor payments and final accounts.
• Coordinate with Contracts Managers, Site and Design Teams.
• Identify and manage commercial risks and cost exposure.
• Support procurement and subcontract negotiations.
• Provide commercial updates and recommendations to senior management.
• Ensure projects stay commercially controlled from pre-construction to completion.

Job Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor in Magherafelt

An established and growing construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team.This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused QS with strong main-contractor experience who is comfortable taking ownership of the commercial performance of projects from procurement through to completion and final account.The successful candidate will work closely with operational, design and commercial teams, providing strong financial and contractual control throughout the project lifecycle.

The Role

Responsibilities will include:

• Managing the commercial and procurement aspects of subcontract packages.
• Preparing and reviewing monthly valuations, cost reports and commercial forecasts.
• Monitoring project performance and preparing regular CVR and management information.
• Managing variations, change control and contractual entitlement.
• Reviewing subcontractor applications, payments and final accounts.
• Working closely with Contracts Managers, Site Teams and Design Teams to maintain commercial control.
• Identifying and managing commercial risks, opportunities and potential cost exposure.
• Supporting effective procurement and subcontract negotiations.
• Providing clear commercial updates and recommendations to senior management.
• Ensuring projects remain commercially controlled from pre-construction/procurement through to completion.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can demonstrate:

• A degree or equivalent qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
• Strong experience working for a main contractor.
• Experience working on substantial construction projects.
• Good knowledge of commercial and contractual processes.
• Strong understanding of procurement, valuations, variations, cost reporting and final accounts.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder-management skills.
• The confidence to work autonomously and take responsibility for commercial decisions.
• A proactive and commercially minded approach.
• Willingness to travel regularly to project locations across the UK.

Experience across healthcare, care, residential, hospitality or other high-specification new-build projects would be advantageous, although candidates from other relevant construction sectors will also be considered.
