Job summary

Carrington West is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major highways maintenance programme in Suffolk. You will lead pre-contract activities, manage project commercials and work with site teams to ensure financial control.

The role requires a degree in QS, senior experience, NEC contracts, and strong Excel skills. This is a full-time position with UK-wide opportunities and a focus on delivery of large infrastructure projects.

Qualifications

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
• Senior QS experience in construction or civil engineering projects.
• Strong highways/infrastructure project background.
• Experience with NEC3/NEC4 contracts (Option A).
• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre-contract activities including forecasting, measurement, tendering, and procurement.
• Manage project commercials: valuations, applications, cost control, and change management.
• Oversee subcontractor packages and support site teams.
• Prepare, submit, and agree Final Accounts.
• Produce forecasts and contribute to monthly reporting.
• Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
• Drive cashflow through valuations and invoicing processes.
• Mentor junior commercial staff and site teams.
• Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, and internal procedures.

A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to support a major highways maintenance and infrastructure programme. You'll play a key role in the commercial management of projects, ensuring strong financial control and successful delivery across a busy portfolio of works.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead pre-contract activities including forecasting, measurement, subcontract tendering, and procurement
• Manage project commercials: valuations, applications, cost control, and change management
• Oversee subcontractor packages and support operational delivery teams
• Prepare, submit, and agree Final Accounts
• Produce accurate project forecasts and contribute to monthly reporting cycles
• Identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
• Drive cashflow through effective valuation and invoicing processes
• Support and mentor junior commercial staff and site teams
• Ensure compliance with contractual, legal, and internal procedures

Requirements

• Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline
• Proven experience operating at Senior QS level within construction or civil engineering
• Strong background in highways or infrastructure projects
• Solid working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts (Option A )
• Experience with Highways Method of Measurement / Schedule of Rates
• Excellent communication and organisational skills
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel
