Senior Quantity Surveyor - Birmingham - 6 month contract - Inside IR35


Are you an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor looking for an exciting opportunity to work on high-value, high voltage substation projects for National Grid? We are seeking a commercially astute professional to join our dynamic team, overseeing cost management, contracts, and procurement for major infrastructure projects. This role offers the chance to play a key part in delivering critical energy infrastructure, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. Technical responsibilities

This role will provide commercial support at a project level in all aspects of commercial control. You will work on both live projects and tender opportunities within the power sector. You will use your in-depth experience of the NEC3 and NEC4 forms of contract (Options A and C) to administer projects effectively including the development and implementation of subcontracts with the supply chain. This specific role requires Estimating experience.


Functional responsibilities
  1. Conduct monthly internal reporting through the CVR and internal commercial management procedures.
  2. Conduct monthly reporting to the client in accordance with the contract and the client periodical reporting procedure.
  3. Ensure cash flow is optimised through the development of activity schedules, the submission of monthly valuations and the control of subcontractor accounts.
  4. Drive the recovery of outstanding monies and ensure all queries are fully resolved in a timely manner.
  5. Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change events.
  6. Manage change events in accordance with the contract including early warnings, CE notification, CE quotation and through to CE implementation and inclusion into the new cost and programme baselines.
  7. Produce cost estimates and subcontract enquiries for both tender proposals and compensation events.
  8. Ensure the project delivery teams adhere to risk management procedures and financial compliance.
  9. Record the commercial KPI data at project level and minimise any potential negative effect on your projects.
  10. Maintain the projects adherence to payment timescales.
  11. Prepare and manage sub-contracts throughout the project, through to Final Account agreement.
  12. Work closely with the project delivery teams to enforce the business drivers and outcomes for your projects.
  13. Maximise profitability having regard to client and subcontractor relations, third party incomers and the company's strategic objectives regarding client relations and the risk/reward philosophy.
  14. A commercially and contractually astute individual that takes ownership of performance.
  15. Assistance with the management, preparation and submission of tender enquiries.
  16. Undertake costing activities, utilizing a sound working knowledge of tender process.
  17. Interact and communicate effectively with clients and colleagues to achieve project objectives.
  18. Able to manage multiple projects and conflicting deadlines.
  19. Able to work autonomously and/or as part of a project team.
  20. Identifying new skills and competencies required to meet business needs and actively supporting development and recruitment of talent.
  21. Support the continued development of more junior team personnel providing commercial guidance and establishing training needs.

Qualifications

Requirements:
  1. 3 years' relevant experience as a Quantity Surveyor.
  2. BSc or HND (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent commercially related subject.
  3. Estimating experience.
  4. Experience within the Power Transmission & Distribution sector preferred.
  5. Awareness and experience of construction methods, technology, standard forms of measurement and the NEC 3 and NEC4 forms of contract (Options A & C).
  6. Excellent computer literacy with experience MS office suite of programmes.
  7. Ability to read, understand, interpret and analyse a project programme.
