Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager

Location: Manchester, North West

Sector: Infrastructure – Rail

Contract Type: Permanent

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Overview: An established, multidisciplinary consultancy is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor / Cost Manager to join their growing infrastructure team, working on a major rail project. This is a key hire offering strong progression prospects and exposure to high-profile schemes. While rail experience is beneficial, candidates from wider infrastructure sectors such as highways, water, utilities, and general civil engineering will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Leading cost management across all stages of project delivery, including feasibility, pre-contract, and post-contract phases.
  2. Preparing and developing detailed cost plans and estimates.
  3. Advising clients on procurement strategies and tender processes.
  4. Managing and interpreting NEC contracts.
  5. Supporting the development of commercial strategies and reporting procedures.
  6. Providing commercial insight and risk management to ensure project delivery within budget.
  7. Liaising with stakeholders including clients, design teams, contractors, and project managers.

Required Experience:

  1. Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Cost Manager within infrastructure sectors.
  2. Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
  3. Experience in pre-contract services and cost planning.
  4. Ability to work independently while also collaborating with internal teams and clients.
  5. Chartered or working towards MRICS/MCIOB/APM (desirable but not essential).

Backgrounds Considered: Consultancy (PQS) or Main contractor / Tier 1 contractor experience. Rail sector experience is preferred, but those from highways, utilities, water, or general civils are encouraged to apply.
