Senior Quantity Surveyor & Commercial Lead – Tier 1 Main Contractor

Exeter

Premises Recruitment are proud to be working with a Tier 1 Main Contractor, part of a prestigious international group, delivering landmark UK construction projects from £50m to over £300m in value. Their portfolio spans residential new build, mixed-use schemes, hospitals, and major university developments.

They are currently seeking both a Senior Quantity Surveyor and a Commercial Lead to join their team on a flagship £250m+ student accommodation project in Exeter. This large-scale scheme includes seven buildings – four high-rise, two low-rise new builds, and one major refurbishment – with a three-year build programme and PCSA stage.

Senior Quantity Surveyor – £60k–£70k

We’re seeking a commercially astute and detail-focused Senior Quantity Surveyor, ideally with experience on £50m+ projects for Tier 1 main contractors. You’ll collaborate closely with construction and design teams, manage subcontractor accounts, and support the project’s financial success from procurement through to final accounts.

Key Responsibilities:

• Manage subcontractor procurement, payments, and accounts
• Prepare cost/value reconciliations, CVRs and client valuations
• Maximise margins while delivering value and maintaining quality
• Collaborate across teams to ensure contractual and financial objectives are met

Ideal Background:

• Tier 1 or reputable main contractor experience
• Stable UK career history
• Degree qualified or equivalent (RICS / CIOB desirable)
• Previous experience on high-rise residential or student accommodation projects

This is a strategic leadership opportunity for an experienced Commercial Manager or Deputy Commercial Director. You’ll take full commercial responsibility for the £250m project, ensuring profitability, cost control, and team leadership across the commercial function.

Ideal Background:

• Proven success leading £200m+ projects
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
• Experience in residential or student accommodation preferred but not essential
• Ability to drive commercial performance at a senior level
