Job Description - Senior Quantity Surveyor Claim Specialist (01061)

Project Outline

Farrans is currently looking for an experienced Senior QS to join our team in Belfast. This role is ideal for someone with a strong background in claims and dispute resolution, who can navigate complex contractual matters and drive successful commercial outcomes.

Hybrid working is available in this role - 3 days per week in the office (Dunmurry, Belfast).

Living away from home allowance is applicable for this role. We are here to make this as seamless as possible, therefore we cover all accommodation costs and cover travel costs (as set out in our policy).

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, your duties will include:

  1. Communicate, negotiate and procure sub-contractors & supply chain.
  2. Advising project team on contractual issues.
  3. Ensure commercial compliance of current conditions of contracts, protecting the position of the company.
  4. Upward and down chain reporting to senior management and wider project team to ensure awareness of the contract position.
  5. Pricing variations, compensation events, managing contractual notifications and providing tender support.
  6. Cost & risk control and management.
  7. Provide the Commercial and Contract Managers with accurate monthly project cost and performance reporting.
  8. Preparation of monthly financial statements of anticipated final accounts detailing status of variations (budget, submitted, agreed), in conjunction with project management.
  9. Assist with monthly work in progress reports in conjunction with the project manager.
  10. Managing delegated resources (e.g., budgets, equipment, and contracts) as appropriate to ensure value for money.
  11. Being fully aware of and actively complying with Farrans policies and procedures relevant to your own responsibilities and to corporate policies and procedures including equality, sustainability and the environment, health and safety and data protection.

Required Skills and Experience

  1. Post contract experience in a construction commercial management role working on major projects.
  2. Ideally have 2-3 years as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, although not essential.
  3. Experience administering NEC form of contract.
  4. Degree or demonstrable suitable commercial management experience.
  5. Strong understanding of modern Civil Engineering techniques, plant and equipment and an appreciation of logistical needs/issues.
  6. Appreciation of the impact of cost in the completion of a programme and development of construction solutions.
  7. Experience in managing a team to meet tight deadlines.
  8. Strong IT skills.
  9. Full Manual UK driving license essential.
