Job description

Our client is one of the largest construction companies within the UK with internationally‑renowned experience in the successful delivery of technically demanding, multi‑disciplinary and logistically complex projects.

To support their growing business, they are currently looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor with significant civils and/or rail experience to work on a four-year rail framework in the Exeter area.

The role

As the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be involved in managing the commercial reports and advice to the management team, ensuring the commercial targets are achieved including project and programme cost, quality and time.

  • Carry out tasks as instructed by various members of the Commercial/Quantity surveying team, such as measurement for valuations
  • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with standard company HSE procedures and work instructions
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of the contract cost reporting system as directed by the line manager
  • Prepare cash flows for payments in and out
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate forecasts of project cost to completion and final value
  • Assist with sub‑contract tender process and support the preparation of sub‑contract documentation
  • Prepare payment certificates for sub‑contract work
  • Assist with the preparation of interim applications for payment
  • Assist with the valuation of variations
  • Assist with the preparation of valuations and claims, ensuring that they are supported by relevant records
  • Assist in the preparation of accurate monthly reporting of cost and value on the project(s) in line with the Company’s reporting process
  • Identify potential risk and opportunities and escalate these as appropriate
  • You will be responsible for ensuring all aspects of the commercial plan are completed and will produce contract month end statements and performance reports, as well as feeding commercial project information back to the client.
Key Requirements
  • Proven track record of delivering high value construction projects ideally in Rail or Civils sectors.
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or similar discipline.
  • Qualified or working towards MRICS / MCIOB / MICES.
  • Comfortable interfacing with Senior Management and Stakeholders.
  • Excellent analytical skills to make informed, balanced business decision and reporting findings to Clients and Stakeholders.
