Job summary

Barhale is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial performance on major civil engineering projects. You will drive cost control, reporting, and risk management while guiding junior commercial staff and coordinating with project teams.

Based in Manchester, you will manage contracts, CVRs and cost plans, ensuring governance, cash management and value delivery across programmes. Barhale offers a competitive package and clear career progression.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in the construction industry.
• Familiarity with IChemE/ NEC forms of contract and knowledge of Construction Law.
• Experience in commercial management and procurement of subcontractors, including chairing regular meetings, measurement and control cycle, certificates and accruals calculations.
• Demonstrable experience in monthly forecasting and cost analysis.
• Excellent communication, numeric and computer literacy skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial performance of projects, ensuring robust cost control and accurate reporting.
• Draft and update monthly CVRs, cost plans and commercial plans.
• Manage main contracts and subcontract agreements, including post‑contract management.
• Oversee subcontract procurement, negotiation and accounts, ensuring value and efficiency.
• Collaborate with project teams and stakeholders to optimise commercial performance.
