Job summary

Sweet Projects is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management on a major data centre refurbishment in Bristol. You will drive cost control, procurement strategies and contract administration across multiple packages.

You will work with project leadership to maximise profitability, manage cash flow and deliver accurate reporting, while upholding health, safety and quality standards on a design and build, circa £15m project.

Qualifications

HNC / HND / Degree in Quantity Surveying is desirable.
Membership with MCIOB and/or MRICS (or equivalent experience) preferred.

Responsibilities

Take ownership and delivery of commercial and contractual administration best practice on all projects under their responsibility.
Ensuring compliance with Group Operating Procedures.
Represent and serve the best interests of the business to meet the client expectations and encourage repeat business.
Working with project leadership and site management to ensure all projects meet and exceed objectives set for turnover, cash and profitability, both on an interim and final basis.
Maintaining robust commercial management, reporting and forecasting.
Working with project leadership and site management in the recovery of full financial entitlements on projects including the measurement of change and resolution of issues with an effect on profitability.
Implementing project procurement strategy and requirements and ensuring the correct procurement, administration, payment processes and management of subcontracts on all projects under their responsibility.
Actively seek to improve department processes and procedures.
Attend all pre-contract meetings with the supply chain as necessary to ensure full compliance with the subcontractor/ consultant/ supplier and scope is clarified prior to entering into contract agreement.
Identifying project risks and implementing effective management strategies.
Working with and under the leadership of the Commercial Manager to protect the company or divisions commercial and contractual interests on all projects under their responsibility.
Working with project leadership and site management in the management of project design to maximise return, quality, timing and safety.
Promotion of effective attitudes and behaviours consistent with the Companies Core Values.
Ensure that all reporting is accurate and completed to agreed timescales.
Ensure the project and programme contract, cost, quality and time targets are met.
Ensure prompt and regular submission of main contract payment applications and ensure that subcontractor payments are dealt with fairly and in accordance with subcontract terms.
Ensure all commercial documents are correctly managed and filed, in accordance with company data storage platform, to meet all contractual and legal requirements.
Supervise, mentor and encourage all subordinate staff in their personal professional development including PDP, welfare, safety competency and disciplinary matters.
Review weekly productivity of the team under their management.
Build a close relationship with delivery manager to ensure the goals for the distribution area are fully met, assisting the operations team with their customer relationship.
Maintain and coordinate all commercial reports required for the successful commercial management of the contract.

At Sweet Project Holdings Limited, (SPHL), we work with the data, defence, and energy sectors. We are a comprehensive design, construction and engineering provider, offering services spanning site acquisition, architecture, and refurbishment to client occupancy. In our world, there are no simple projects, only specialist needs and clever solutions.

We are a general contracting business, drawing on over forty years of specialised industry experience to provide excellent service, sustain long-term partnerships and achieve the highest quality outcome for key clients, whilst maintaining financial commitments.

Sweet Projects is looking for a Senior Quantity Surveyor for an upcoming data centre project in Bristol. This will be the 2nd phase of the project, the first being the completion of an £8million data centre within an existing building.

Stage 2 is the refurbishment of an existing Data Centre expanding the existing IT capacity by adding an additional 2.4MW. New mechanical and electrical systems will be installed including chillers, generators, switchgear, UPSs and CRAH units. The project is the second phase subsequent to the delivery of the first refurbishment Phase. This is a design and build project valued at circa £15million.

Job Requirements

Experience required

Must have a good working knowledge of the principle forms of construction contract, current construction legal principals and dispute resolution processes.
Commercially oriented, qualified individual, with experience of taking commercial responsibility on a variety of projects with a variety of alternative forms of procurement and project values.
Experience successfully delivering commercial strategies and processes on a variety of projects, including a range of project values and comfortable articulating the outcomes.
Strong understanding of procurement practices and subcontract forms.
Proficient in cost/value process and reporting.
Management training and development will be provided as part of Sweet Projects’ personal development program.
Practical experience in effective planning and organisation, resource management, and commercial management.
Proven ability to understand and meet objectives, ensuring the successful execution of projects.

Qualifications

Job Responsibilities

Purpose

The primary responsibility of the Senior Quantity Surveyor is the commercial management and administration of assigned works or tasks.

The role focuses on optimising profitability by managing allocated projects or packages, ensuring the efficient implementation and commercial oversight of tasks and contracts. Provide commercial expertise to aid with the delivery of the contracted work by taking the commercial lead in a geographical focused team.

The provision of accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to the to the management team whilst ensuring the contract achieves the appropriate commercial targets.

Key responsibilities include overseeing commercial reporting in line with the company’s requirements and standards, including commercial reporting, cash forecasts, and End of Life results. The role also covers all pre-contract works, including formulating and delivering strategies aimed at achieving high‑quality margin work. Leading the commercial team, the role ensures projects are sufficiently resourced, adhering to quantity surveying best practices, and maintaining compliance with the company’s authorization levels, quality standards, and health, safety, and environmental procedures.

This requires delivery of good commercial practice on all projects under their control and working with project leadership and site management to optimise profitability and cash generation on all projects.
