Job summary

Fulkers Bailey Russell is recruiting an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management across a range of complex, large-scale projects for our Private Sector team. You will drive cost control, procurement, and contracts from inception to completion to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.

Qualifications

• Chartered accreditation (MRICS preferred) and experience in cost management for large, complex projects.
• Experience across data centres, defence, office, retail sectors is advantageous.
• Ability to lead the whole lifecycle of projects with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead production and management of cost plans, life cycle costing, cash flow forecasts and benchmarking.
• Oversee procurement activities and manage tender and evaluation processes.
• Manage contract negotiations and act as client liaison through pre- and post-contract stages.
• Administer contracts as Contract Administrator or Employer's Agent and oversee post-contract duties.
• Manage interim valuations, cost reporting, change control, variations, final accounts and disputes.
• Contribute to risk registers, value engineering, and value management reporting.
• Support the Associate Director in fee bids, resource management, and client relationships.
• Mentor and develop Assistants and Quantity Surveyors.

What does the role involve?

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be taking the commercial lead in the delivery of projects, from inception to completion. The role involves working with Project Team to allow projects to be delivered safely on time and to budget whilst ensuring high levels of client satisfaction whilst supporting the development of Assistants and Surveyors.

Responsibilities

• Lead the production and management of cost plans, life cycle costing, cash flow forecasts and benchmarking using Cost-X, BIM, and relevant data sources
• Oversee procurement activities, including preparation of tender documentation, bills of quantities, pricing documents, procurement reports, and managing the full tender and evaluation process
• Manage contract negotiations, prepare and collate contract documents, and act as a key client liaison throughout pre- and post-contract stages
• Administer contracts as Contract Administrator or Employer's Agent, including issuing instructions, managing snagging, overseeing practical completion, and post-contract duties
• Manage post-contract responsibilities such as interim valuations, cost reporting, change control, evaluation of variations, final accounts, and dispute resolution
• Contribute to and oversee risk registers, value engineering, and value management reporting
• Support the Associate Director in fee bids, resource and fee management, reporting, and maintaining client relationships
• Supervise, mentor, and develop Assistant and Quantity Surveyors
• Ensure accurate and timely updates to internal systems and sign-off of invoices
• Maintain quality assurance standards and best practice procedures across all projects
• Uphold health and safety standards and support environmental and social impact
• Carry out additional duties in line with the role as required.

• Ideally Chartered accreditation with previous experience working within the construction industry in a similar discipline
• Ability to deliver larger and more complex projects through the whole project lifecycle
• Excellent experience based technical/project knowledge
• Ability to delegate tasks to others within the team and support their work
• Support junior members of the team with mentoring and development
• Development of leadership and management skills
• Generate new work through the management of client relations
• Ability to analyse projects and report performance to line manager
• Excellent knowledge of internal systems and processes in order to advise and guide others
• Excellent knowledge of CDM and construction Health & Safety
