This is a fantastic opportunity to take ownership of the commercial management for significant water infrastructure projects across Hampshire, contributing directly to their successful delivery. You will play a key role within the commercial team, focusing on projects such as water storage facilities, wastewater treatment works, and pumping stations with contract values ranging from £10m to £50m.

This role offers a defined career path and the chance to work on technically interesting projects within the vital water sector, supported by a company committed to professional development and work-life balance.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Senior Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the end-to-end commercial management of assigned projects. Key duties include:
  • Commercial Strategy: Developing and implementing robust commercial plans to maximise project profitability and mitigate risks.
  • Contract Administration (NEC): Managing contractual obligations and ensuring compliance, particularly under NEC forms of contract.
  • Measurement & Valuation: Undertaking accurate measurement and valuation of works for applications for payment, variations, and final account negotiations.
  • Claims Management: Preparing, submitting, and negotiating claims for delay, disruption, loss, and/or expense where necessary.
  • Subcontractor Management: Managing the procurement, negotiation, administration, and final accounting of subcontractors.
  • Cost Control & Reporting: Implementing effective cost control measures, providing accurate forecasting, and contributing to financial reporting.
  • Team Collaboration: Providing expert commercial and contractual advice and support to estimating, design, procurement, and project delivery teams.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaising effectively with clients, consultants, and supply chain partners.

Candidate Requirements

  • Experience: Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor, ideally within a main contracting environment.
  • Sector Background: Demonstrable experience working on projects within the infrastructure, utilities, or civil engineering sectors. Specific experience in the water sector (wastewater/clean water) is highly advantageous.
  • Contract Knowledge: Strong working knowledge and practical application of NEC forms of contract is essential.
  • Core Skills: Proficient in measurement, valuation, cost control, subcontractor management, and final accounts.
  • Qualifications: A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial/construction field is preferred (or equivalent vocational experience). RICS or CICES membership (or working towards) is desirable.
  • Attributes: Commercially astute, strong negotiator, excellent communication skills, analytical mindset, and ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
