Job description

On the back of an ever-increasing workload, we are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with strong Civils and Rail project work experience.

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for assisting the Commercial Manager in implementing commercial reporting systems and procedures to maximise commercial benefits of all responsible contracts, with particular focus on risk mitigation, pricing of variations, detailed cost management and day-to-day management of contracts or a portfolio of contracts.

Responsibilities:

  1. Overseeing cost-analysis and estimating process against an agreed Schedule of Rates.
  2. Preparing Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analysis tender documents.
  3. Reviewing complex contract programmes.
  4. Assisting with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes.
  5. Monitoring subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately.
  6. Analysing the commercial progress and report to senior project staff.
  7. Managing commercial aspects with Customer and Stakeholders for their area of responsibility.
  8. Undertaking constructability analyses using construction programmes.
  9. Preparing procurement programme and helps develop the strategy.
  10. Analysing rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required.
  11. Preparing, submitting and negotiating claims when required.
  12. Preparing Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation.
  13. Cost valuations & Negotiations with sub-contractors.
  14. Procurement of all supply items and subcontractor packages.
  15. Preparation of interim valuations.
  16. Chairing site and client progress meetings.
  17. Regularly updating projected final accounts.
  18. Mentoring and leading junior Commercial staff.
  19. Regularly updating and managing cash flow forecasts.
  20. Preparation and agreement of all final account matters.

Health & Safety Obligations:
  1. Fully understand and implement the company safety policy and procedures.
  2. Ensure that the programmes for the contracts are successfully delivered in a Safe, Quality and On Time Manner.
  3. Ensure that a 'Right First Time' culture is adopted and developed throughout the business.
  4. Drive compliance to any regulatory measures that may apply to the works and operations that we undertake.
  5. Ensure that all contracts achieve turnover and profitability by maximising efficiency and minimising cost of failure.
  6. Manage Client relationships within the client organisations across all areas.
  7. Sponsor new ways of working which would improve delivery and service then support any activities being undertaken to implement change.

Knowledge Requirements:
  1. Degree qualified or similar.
  2. Proven ability to run complex bids and multiple bids.
  3. Understanding of pricing, cost and profit.
  4. Basic understanding of contract language.
  5. NEC3 experience.
  6. Excellent numerical and analytical skills, an ability to problem solve and make decisions.
