Job description

Location: Heathrow (Primary focus on major, safety-critical transportation & civil engineering assets)

Package: Highly Competitive Base Salary + Executive Company Car / Allowance (EV/Hybrid) + Bonus

About the Business The employer is a market-leading UK infrastructure services group responsible for renewing, maintaining, and transforming critical national assets. Operating across high-security, safety-critical sectors, the organisation delivers essential civil engineering, asset management, and building projects for both public and private sector clients. Known for a collaborative and safety-first culture, the business actively invests in professional development, commercial innovation, and structured career progression.

The Opportunity

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of complex maintenance, upgrade, and replacement schemes across major transportation infrastructure in Heathrow.

Writing to candidates who thrive in fast-paced, high-compliance environments, this role oversees full end-to-end commercial management, risk mitigation, and financial reporting for large-scale framework contracts. Additionally, the Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a vital leadership role—mentoring junior surveying talent, driving pre-contract work-winning strategies, and upholding rigorous governance across high-value portfolios.

Key Responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Commercial Governance: Manage project costs, contract administration, procurement, monthly cost reconciliations, and financial reporting across complex civil and building packages.
  • Risk & Dispute Management: Identify, track, and mitigate commercial risks (cost overruns, scope changes, delays) and liaise with contract service teams to resolve commercial variations and disputes effectively.
  • Mentorship & Development: Provide structured mentorship, training, and technical guidance to assistant and junior quantity surveyors, supporting their progress toward professional accreditation (APC/RICS).
  • Work-Winning & Pre-Contract: Collaborate closely with pre-contract teams, contributing to resource planning, tendering, and commercial strategy on work-winning initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as the primary commercial contact for key clients, main contractors, and internal executive leadership during regular portfolio reviews.

Candidate Requirements

  • Education & Accreditation: Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline. Professional membership (MRICS, CICES, or equivalent) is highly desirable.
  • Sector Background: Proven track record delivering commercial management on civil engineering, structural maintenance, or safety-critical infrastructure projects (e.g., aviation, rail, highways, or major utilities).
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong expertise in cost estimation techniques, contract negotiation, financial forecasting, and risk management.
  • Leadership & Influence: Outstanding communication skills with a demonstrated ability to provide specialist commercial guidance to senior multidisciplinary teams.
  • Digital Literacy: Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and enterprise commercial/cost-management platforms.

What the Package Includes

  • Competitive Base Salary: Highly attractive market rate reflecting senior-level experience.
  • Mobility Package: Choice of Company Car / Fuel Card (including extensive Electric & Hybrid options) or a flexible salary-sacrifice vehicle scheme.
  • Incentives: Discretionary company bonus scheme and employee referral rewards.
  • Health & Well-being: Private healthcare (including 24/7 online GP access), Healthcare Cash Plan (covering dental, optical, and physio costs), and access to Mental Health First Aiders.
  • Financial & Protection: Matched/contributory pension scheme, Life Assurance, and employee discount portals.
  • Work-Life Balance: 25 days annual leave (+ Bank Holidays), option to purchase additional annual leave, and enhanced parental leave policies.
