Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior Quantity Surveyor for projects in the North of England. You will manage costs, valuations, procurement, and contract administration on civil engineering schemes including shafts and tunnelling.

The role requires NEC contracts experience, 5+ years QS experience, strong IT skills, and excellent communication and negotiation abilities. Travel to site visits will be required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in quantity surveying; NEC contracts essential.
  • 5+ years of QS experience; Senior QS 2+ years preferred.
  • Experience with NEC contracts; commercially astute with standard forms.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Good communication and negotiation/persuasion abilities.
  • Experience in civils, shafts and tunnelling desirable but not necessary.
  • IChemE experience desirable but not necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Estimate and control project costs.
  • Ensure structures meet legal and quality standards.
  • Prepare internal commercial reporting and other required reports.
  • Prepare valuations/applications for payment with supporting contract documentation.
  • Prepare cost reports for clients with contractually compliant documentation.
  • Administer subcontract and supplier accounts, from detailed requisitions through subcontract payments to final accounts.
  • Undertake contract administration, including change management, and maintain associated registers.
  • Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change.
  • Utilise the costing system.
  • Visit various project sites within the North of England.

Job description

  • Estimate and control project costs

Requirements
  • Experience in construction; civils, shafts and tunnelling desirable but not necessary
  • Experience with IChemE desirable but not necessary
  • Experience with NEC contracts essential
  • Commercially astute with knowledge of standard forms of contract and standard methods of measurement
  • Computer literate with strong skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Good communication skills, including presentations
  • Ability to negotiate and persuade others
  • At least 5 years of Quantity Surveyor experience
  • Ideally a minimum of 2 years as a Senior Quantity Surveyor
