Job summary

Kier Group, via its KierBAM team, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a Royal Navy redevelopment project in Plymouth. The role focuses on managing financials and contracts to ensure successful delivery in a secure environment.

The position emphasizes cost control, contract negotiation, procurement oversight, and collaboration with multidisciplinary stakeholders. BPSS clearance is required and some onsite presence is expected.

Qualifications

• Degree in QS/Construction Management/Civil Engineering with RICS or CIOB preferred.
• Strong experience in quantity surveying on construction/infrastructure projects; nuclear/defence experience preferred.
• Knowledge of contracts, procurement methods and cost control; proficient in QS software.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed cost estimates, budgets and financial reports across the project lifecycle.
• Review contracts, subcontracts and variations for compliance with standards.
• Manage procurement, evaluate bids and prepare payment applications.
• Monitor project progress, forecast final costs and identify financial risks.

Job description

We're looking for three Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our KierBAM team based in Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard.

Location: Plymouth – Devonport Royal Dockyard - minimum of 3 days per week working onsite
Hours: 45 hours per week

We are unable to offer certificates of sponsorship to any candidates in this role.

Due to the sensitive nature of the site, BPSS security clearance is required. Please note that this process can take up to 8 weeks. Eligibility criteria: Candidates must hold a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

KierBAM is a Joint Venture partnership between Kier and BAM Nuttall, currently delivering an exciting redevelopment project at a Royal Navy site in Plymouth. We're seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team and play a crucial role in managing all contractual and financial aspects of this significant construction project. This is an excellent opportunity to work on a high-profile development in a secure environment, where your expertise will directly contribute to the successful delivery of vital infrastructure.

What will you be responsible for?

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll be working within the KierBAM team, supporting them in delivering this important Royal Navy redevelopment project. Your day to day will include:

• Preparing detailed cost estimates, budgets and financial reports whilst conducting cost planning and control throughout the project lifecycle
• Reviewing and negotiating contracts, subcontracts and variations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards
• Managing procurement processes, evaluating supplier bids and preparing interim and final payment applications
• Monitoring project progress, forecasting final costs and identifying potential financial risks
• Collaborating with clients, architects, engineers and contractors whilst mentoring junior team members

What are we looking for?

This role of Senior Quantity Surveyor is great for you if:

• You hold a degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or Civil Engineering, with professional accreditation such as RICS or CIOB preferred
• You have strong experience in quantity surveying within construction or infrastructure projects, ideally within the nuclear or defence sectors
• You possess strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement methods and cost control techniques, with proficiency in quantity surveying software
• You have excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build collaborative relationships across diverse teams
• You're able to meet eligibility criteria including holding a passport from a NATO or MISWG member country and having resided in the UK for the past 5 years for security clearance purposes
