Job description

One of London's oldest contracting businesses trading over 100 years, our client is an industry-recognized brand having delivered some of the UK's and London's most iconic projects. They hold a very strong portfolio and track record of delivering major Data Centre schemes. Five core service areas are Engineering Services, Technologies, Infrastructure, Residential and Hotels, and Facilities Management.

Holding its engineering values in high regard, they are the go-to contractor for major projects due to their unique model which maintains a large core of direct workforce and skilled engineering and management teams.

As an employer, their retention of staff is hard to beat, with many of the leadership team working up from apprentice and others having long-standing careers to retirement. Recently, they have also been bought out by a private investor from the Gas Industry, currently turning over in excess of £600 million; they plan to break the £700 million turnover mark in the coming years with a large cash injection behind them to help in the growth plans.

Role: Senior Quantity Surveyor - Up To £90,000 + Travel Allowance + Package

Reporting to the Commercial Director, they currently have 2 large Data Centre Schemes in East London in which the CSA package involves blockwork, partitions, raised access flooring, and groundworks.

Role/Responsibilities:

  1. Control all expenditure.
  2. Reconcile cost/value reports and profit forecasts.
  3. Assist the Operations Manager with pre-start planning and programming.
  4. Selection of Sub-contractors for works in accordance with company Sub-contract procurement requirements.
  5. Sub-contract procurement and commercial management.
  6. Management and control of sub-contract accounts and variation accounts.
  7. Change management control.
  8. Assist and liaise with the buyers on materials procurement and buying opportunities.
  9. Manage the day-to-day cost control, monitoring, and reporting.
  10. Develop an understanding of the designated contract, specification, and pricing ensuring compliance with conditions throughout.
  11. Assist the Operations Manager with subcontractor selection and ensure the chosen subcontractor has the appropriate skill set and capability to deliver the works. Place the appropriate order and all required information to carry out their work.
  12. Measure progress, submit valuations, submit final accounts and retention release, and monitor receipt of payment in a timely manner in accordance with the contracts.
  13. Process subcontractor requests for payment.
  14. Complete a monthly cost/valuation report and cash flow for the designated projects.
  15. Where appropriate, assist with estimates and negotiations for future projects or phases.
  16. Attend project and company-related meetings.
  17. Ensure the company is neither compromised nor disadvantaged by a contractual or financial arrangement.
  18. Sufficiently manage the financial aspects of the project to ensure the correct safety equipment is always used.
