Job summary

Building Careers UK Ltd is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor for social housing refurbishment projects in Rochdale. You will take overall commercial responsibility and work closely with operational teams, clients and the supply chain.

Applicants should have proven Senior QS experience in construction, with strong social housing refurbishment background, and a solid track record in cost control, forecasting and final accounts. Proficiency in Excel and IT is essential.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within construction
• Strong social housing refurbishment experience
• Experience working on planned maintenance, refurbishment, or improvement programmes
• Strong knowledge of commercial management, cost control, forecasting, and final accounts
• Experience managing subcontract procurement and accounts
• Good understanding of construction contracts and contractual procedures
• Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills
• Excellent commercial awareness and negotiation ability
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior commercial staff
• Strong Excel and general IT skills
• Relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification

Responsibilities

• Providing commercial support and guidance to Project and Contracts Managers
• Managing client relationships and attending commercial/project meetings
• Monitoring project performance against budget and forecast
• Supporting dispute avoidance and resolution where required
• Mentoring and supporting junior commercial team members
• Providing accurate commercial reporting to senior management
• Ensuring projects are delivered in line with commercial targets

Our client is an established construction and refurbishment contractor with a strong presence across the North West. The business specialises in delivering refurbishment, maintenance, and improvement programmes, with significant experience working within the social housing sector.

Working closely with housing associations, local authorities, and other public sector clients, the business has built a strong reputation for delivering programmes safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. With continued growth and a healthy pipeline of social housing refurbishment work, they are now looking to appoint an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their commercial team.

The Role

As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of significant social housing refurbishment programmes, working closely with operational teams, clients, and the supply chain.

The Ideal Candidate

The successful Senior Quantity Surveyor will have:
