Job summary

Our Client, a design and build provider in the water sector, seeks a Senior QS to lead commercial management on projects. You will report to the Managing QS and drive cost control and contract administration across multiple work packages.

The role requires extensive surveying experience in utilities or infrastructure, with NEC/IChemE knowledge and a track record in managing subcontractors and payroll applications.

Qualifications

  • Comprehensive commercial experience, preferably with a contracting organisation.
  • Experience in utilities/civil engineering/MEICA/infrastructure projects.
  • Working towards or Chartered membership of a recognised institution (desirable).
  • Experience of standard forms of contract such as NEC and IChemE.

Responsibilities

  • Quantity surveying duties managing projects and work packages.
  • Liaise with design, construction and supply chain to capture, analyse and control cost.
  • Collaborate with client to ensure business requirements are met.
  • Manage main contract, ensuring contractual notices and correspondence are raised as necessary.
  • Prepare and issue subcontract documentation.
  • Assist in management and performance of subcontractors.
  • Manage preparation and agreement of applications for payment.
  • Prepare project cost & value reports, budgets and forecasts.
  • Develop junior commercial staff.
  • Participate in external networking/conferences/groups for CPD.
  • Maintain a positive, solution-oriented approach and provide open feedback.

Our Client

Is an integrated design and build solution provider operating in the water sector. They have over 1,000 staff working across eight regional centres, primarily supporting six long term water sector frameworks operating both on their own and increasingly in joint ventures and alliances.

The Role

You will report directly to the Managing QS and you will be expected to take responsibility for the Commercial Management of projects.

Responsibilities
  • Quantity surveying duties in respect of managing projects and work packages.
  • Liaise with design, construction and supply chain teams to capture, analyse and control cost.
  • Collaborative work with the client to ensure business requirements are met
  • Manage the main contract ensuring contractual notices and correspondence are identified and raised as necessary.
  • Preparation and issue of subcontract documentation.
  • Assist in the management and performance of subcontractors.
  • Manage the preparation and agreement of applications for payment.
  • The preparation of project cost & value reports, budgets and forecasts.
  • Assist in the management and development of junior commercial staff.
  • Ensure your own continuous professional development by participating in external networking/conferences/associations/groups, to stay current on industry changes and innovations.
  • Maintain a positive and solution-oriented approach to work, providing open and honest feedback.
Experience
  • A comprehensive level of commercial experience preferably with a contracting organisation.
  • Experience in utilities/civil engineering/MEICA/infrastructure projects.
  • BSc or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or other equivalent construction related subject
  • Working towards or have chartered membership of a recognised institution (desirable)
  • Experience of standard forms of contract such as NEC and IChemE
  • Claim management.
  • Experience of managing and developing an individual or small team (desirable)
