Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial management of projects from award through to completion in the UK&I region. You will head a team of Quantity Surveyors, guiding commercial performance and providing contractual advice to Sales and Projects teams while mentoring apprentices.

The role requires strong leadership, robust risk management and excellent stakeholder communication to drive profitable outcomes for major regional projects.

Qualifications

  • 5–7 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor on non-framework projects (£100k–£10m).
  • Experience in Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) environments including HAVC&R, Security, Fire detection/suppression, BMS/Controls.
  • Strong understanding of commercial and financial risk.
  • Proven ability to lead large commercial projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical details to non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent decision-making.
  • RICS accreditation in progress or achieved.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee quantity surveying and commercial management from contract award to completion.
  • Lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and mentor apprentices to ensure strong commercial performance.

How You Will Do It

A key part of the role involves contract and account management for high-risk, high-profile projects, ensuring timely and profitable negotiations on variations and final accounts. You’ll manage change processes, identify claims, calculate value entitlements, and ensure contracts are administered correctly. You’ll also provide ongoing commercial support to your team and act as an escalation point for clients.

What We Look For
  • Ideally 5-7 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor on non-framework agreements on projects ranging from £100k to £10m
  • Proven track record within Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) environments ideally including any of this areas: HAVC&R, Security, Fire detection / suppression, BMS / Controls
  • Strong understanding of commercial and financial risk
  • Proven ability to lead large commercial projects
  • Ability to influence internal and external stakeholders Excellent communication skills, including explaining technical details to non-technical audiences
  • Strong problem-solving skills and independent decision-making
  • RICS accredited or working towards accreditation
