Rogers McHugh in Manchester city centre is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who will take responsibility for the commercial performance of projects, from procurement and subcontractor appointments through to cost reporting, variations and final accounts. Salary £75,000 to £80,000 per annum.

You will work with the wider commercial team, guide junior Quantity Surveyors, monitor profitability, manage contracts and commercial risks, and influence project decisions to protect margins.

Qualifications

• Experience managing the full commercial process from procurement to final accounts.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial risk management.
• Experience mentoring junior Quantity Surveyors is a plus.

About you

If you are an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who enjoys being involved in the commercial decisions that make construction projects successful, this could be a really good opportunity for you.

You will be joining an established construction business, working from their Manchester city centre location, where you will take responsibility for managing the commercial performance of projects.

You will have plenty of involvement throughout the project lifecycle, from procurement and subcontractor appointments through to cost reporting, variations and final accounts.

You will also have the opportunity to work closely with the wider commercial team and support more junior Quantity Surveyors as they develop.

The salary is £75,000 to £80,000 per annum.

Your experience

You will need solid experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.

You should be comfortable managing the full commercial process, including procurement, subcontractor packages, valuations, variations, forecasting, cost reporting and final accounts.

You will need a good understanding of construction contracts and how to manage commercial risks throughout a project.

You should also understand how to monitor profitability, protect margins and make sure costs are properly controlled.

Experience working alongside Contracts Managers, Project Managers and clients will be important, as you will be involved in commercial discussions and decisions throughout the delivery of your projects.

You will ideally hold a degree or HND in Quantity Surveying or a related commercial subject. CIOB or RICS accreditation would be beneficial, although not essential.

If you have experience mentoring or managing junior Quantity Surveyors, that would also be useful.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will take responsibility for the commercial management of construction projects, making sure they are delivered in line with the agreed budgets and financial expectations.

You will manage subcontractor procurement, negotiate packages, place orders and deal with valuations and variations throughout the project.

You will monitor costs, prepare forecasts and produce commercial reports, ensuring the management team has a clear understanding of how each project is performing.

You will also be involved in managing contractual matters, identifying commercial risks and working with the operational teams to resolve issues before they become more significant.

Building and maintaining good relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers will be an important part of your role.

You will work closely with the wider commercial team and have the opportunity to support junior Quantity Surveyors, helping them develop their experience and understanding of commercial project management.

This is a role where you will be expected to take ownership of your projects and use your experience to make commercially sensible decisions.
