Job summary

Stafforce Recruitment is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor for a permanent role in Loughborough. The role focuses on controlling contract costs, reviewing commercial performance, and managing client accounts within a steel fabrication context.

Job description

We're recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our well‑established client in Loughborough on a full time, permanent basis.

Salary: 60,000 - 65,0000 per annum (depending on experience).

Hours: 39 hours per week working 07:45 - 16:45 Monday - Thursday and 07:45 - 14:15 Friday.

The Role:

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will assist the Contract Managers with control and contract costs. You will be accountable for monitoring, recording an analysing costs and resources and enhancing the value of contracts through effective financial control.

Our client are steel fabrication specialist, therefore, experience within the steelwork industry is crucial for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Carry out contract reviews and advising team of risk and opportunities.
• Negotiate contract terms to mitigate commercial risk.
• Manage all costs, reporting and valuation on contracts including contract works and variations.
• In conjunction with the Contracts Manager, prepare and monitor client accounts.
• Conduct measurements and surveying duties on site.
• Carry out cost value reconciliation's (profit and loss).
• Development of knowledge relevant to contract conditions.
• Review of contract performance relative to estimate - produce end of project report.
• Proactively chase agreement on prices.
• Proactively chase instructions and ensure we receive authorised written instruction in advance of carrying out works.
• File manual site instructions and maintain electronic records.
• Meet with client QS on weekly/fortnightly/monthly basis as project requires - agree application and certified amounts monthly.
• Ensure applications are completed on time with Contract Manager.
• Maintain up to date commercial data on internal IT systems.
• Agree final account with Contracts Manager.
• Calculate accounts and proactively negotiate final account and payments with client.
• Liaise with other departments within the Company.
• Liaise with other subcontractors employed by the Company.
• Liaise and negotiate with the client and members of the professional team.
• Understand the implications of the Health & Safety Regulations.
• Attend meetings, both internally and externally, as required.

Essential Requirements:

• Good knowledge and understanding of construction & steelwork activity.
• In depth knowledge of NEC Option, A & B contracts with JCT forms & Bespoke contracts.
• Proficient using MS Excel spreadsheets.
• Good knowledge of MS Project NEC cl. 31 & cl. 32 Programs and impacted program.
• Excellent financial, numerical skills and commercial awareness.
• Excellent IT skills.
• Good communication and negotiating skills.
• Good understanding of building law and regulations, contract law and health and safety law.

People Management:

• Experience of managing and actively developing a team.
• Have good listening skills and the ability to effectively problem solve.
• Have strong leadership skills with the ability to build solid relationships within the team.
