Job summary

J. Murphy & Sons Ltd is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial management on the Western Isles energy transmission scheme. The role is based at Tornagrain (IV2 7AE) until January 2027, then relocates to Jamestown (IV14 9ED) for subsequent site work.

Ideal candidates hold an HND or Degree, have NEC contracts experience, and are or will be Chartered (RICS/ICES). Strong cost reporting and procurement experience in construction/engineering adds value.

Qualifications

• HND or Degree in a relevant field.
• Proven experience with NEC contracts.
• Registered with, or working towards, RICS/ICES chartership.
• Experience in construction/engineering commercial environments.

Responsibilities

• Oversee commercial management of a major project, including sub-contractor management, change control and commercial reporting.
• Ensure governance and group procedures are followed on site.
• Prepare valuations/payments with full documentation.
• Manage subcontractor and material procurement schedules and final accounts.
• Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts and cost reporting.

Murphy is recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to work with Energy on Western Isles linear cable scheme. The role will be based at Tornagrain, IV2 7AE until January 2027 and will then relocate to Jamestown, IV14 9ED.

A Day in the life of a Senior Quantity Surveyor:

• Oversee for the commercial management of a major project (or projects) including managing/negotiating sub-contracts, change management, commercial reporting etc.


• Ensure the site team adheres to group procedures and governance


• Management of internal commercial reporting and any other reports which may be required


• Preparation of Valuations/Applications for Payment with full supporting documentation in accordance with the contract


• Oversee Cost Reports to the Client with contractually compliant supporting documentation


• Management of subcontract and material procurement schedules


• Administration of subcontractor/supplier accounts from the preparation of detailed requisitions, monitoring and authorisation of subcontract payments through to agreement of final accounts


• Undertake the contract administration, including change management and maintain associated registers


• Manage costs whilst identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change


• Use the cost allocation/coding which satisfies both internal and external requirements


• Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required
