Job summary

Galliford Try is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead commercial delivery on the Scottish Water Black Esk Reservoir project near Lockerbie. You will own commercial performance across multiple projects, ensuring governance, profitability, and stakeholder satisfaction.

Key duties include subcontract negotiation, package management, cost reporting, and risk/opportunity management, while mentoring others and supporting bid teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong knowledge of standard forms of contract and construction processes.
  • Excellent IT skills (Excel, Word) and cost management systems (CEMAR, Asite, Orbit).
  • Proven stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Track record of negotiation and final account settlement.
  • Professional qualifications (MCIOB or MRICS) or working towards full membership (desirable).
  • Experience in civil engineering environments (Highways, Rail, Water, Aviation).
  • Exposure to large-scale projects or multiple smaller schemes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and negotiation of subcontract documentation, terms, and pricing.
  • Manage subcontract packages, interim assessments, and change control.
  • Issue commercial notices and handle compensation events per contract requirements.
  • Produce and agree monthly client applications and cost reports (CVRs).
  • Identify and manage risks and opportunities to maximise margin.
  • Drive achievement of cash, profit, and return on capital targets.
  • Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships for repeat business.
  • Support estimating and bid teams with contractual expertise.
  • Manage and develop commercial teams and their wellbeing.
  • Attend progress and risk meetings with clients and subcontractors.

What you will be doing:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the team at Galliford Try within our Environment Division. The Galliford Try ES D Joint Venture needs an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to lead the commercial delivery on the Scottish Water Black Esk Reservoir project close to Lockerbie. As a Senior Quantity Surveyor, you’ll take ownership of commercial performance across multiple projects, ensuring governance, profitability, and stakeholder satisfaction.

  • Leading the preparation and negotiation of subcontract documentation, terms, and pricing.

About You:
