Job summary

SOCOTEC UK & Ireland are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join the Coventry operations. You will manage commercial matters on projects from tender handover through delivery, providing advice to Project Managers and Engineers while safeguarding the region’s commercial performance.

The role will apply NEC contract knowledge, oversee changes, support payments and subcontractor management, contributing to project profitability and cashflow with high standards of cost control.

Qualifications

• Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent.
• Membership or working towards full chartered status.

Responsibilities

• Oversee commercial matters on projects from tender handover to completion.
• Provide commercial input to PMs and Engineers.
• Assist with feasibility studies for potential work items.
• Draft/review Compensation Events and Change Accounts.
• Support payment applications and ensure proper certification.
• Manage subcontractor works, AFPs, valuations, CVRs and related costs.
• Protect cashflow and ensure proper contract administration.
• Participate in client meetings to advocate for the business’ commercial interests.

Job Description

Senior Quantity Surveyor – Coventry

We are seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to assist the Operations team in managing and overseeing all commercial matters on projects from tender handover, through delivery to completion. To provide Commercial input and advice to Project Manager (PM)’s and Engineers as necessary while managing the region’s commercial performance.

The tasks you will undertake will include (but are not limited to):

• Contracting & Contract finance
  • Understanding of NEC Contract – awareness of various options
  • Awareness of different construction contracts & their relevant applications
  • Support Project Managers/Operations Managers to ensure that the obligations and responsibilities of the different projects and other stakeholders are properly fulfilled
  • Assessing cost of variations & attaining agreement with other parties
  • Interpreting contractual implications
  • Preparation of regular financial progress & anticipated final account reports
  • Performing value management & cost control on projects
• Competent Project QS
  • Draft/review Compensation Events (Change)
  • Management of Change Accounts (larger projects)
  • Oversight of NEC EWN process & awareness of NEC timescales
  • Proactive liaison with PMs and Regional Operations Managers to protect cashflow
  • Support payment applications and ensure proper and timely certification
  • Ensuring correct administration of contract
  • Involvement in client meetings to advocate for the business’ commercial interest.
  • Assist client, internal staff and third parties with commercial queries
• Assisting in feasibility studies for potential work items
• Identifying, analysing & developing responses to commercial risks
• Allocating work to subcontractors & suppliers & controlling risks & costs of same
• Managing Subcontractor works, AFPs, Valuations, CVRs etc
• Debt management utilising contract and legal parameters
• Assisting with disputed / claims (feeding into Advisory division)

Qualifications

To be a successful Senior Quantity Surveyor, you should be able to demonstrate:

• Quantity Surveying degree or equivalent
• Membership of the RICS, CIOB, or ICES or at least working towards full membership
• Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and peers, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to be precise and meticulous in ensuring processes are carried out correctly and in a timely manner.
• Ability to apply business acumen to solve problems.
• Ability to effectively manage time and tasks to achieve high productivity
• Able to produce work in an accurate and timely manner
• Able to work effectively and responsibly without close supervision
• Able to prioritise work efficiently
• Able to produce high quality, accurate documentation
