To lead and manage the commercial team working within your allocated portfolio of multidisciplinary light rail projects (primarily within the Midland Metro Alliance structure - MMA), from inception through to final account and close out, to deliver maximum commercial results. An example of the current type of projects being delivered by the MMA is the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro extension which will provide direct access from the Wolverhampton to Birmingham Metro route, passing through Wednesbury, Dudley Port, Dudley, Merry Hill, and Brierley Hill.

Key Areas of Responsibility & Accountability

Including but not limited to

  • Leading, managing, developing, and training the commercial teams across your project portfolio.
  • Raising commercial awareness and embedding best practices across project teams.
  • Handling all contractual matters from inception to close-out, understanding contract implications for profit.
  • Assisting in preparing contract documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings.
  • Managing risk and opportunities during tender and construction phases, ensuring contractual solutions.
  • Setting and managing budgets, establishing project lifecycle cost forecasts, and monitoring against targets.
  • Recording contractual entitlements, notifying events, and pricing changes accurately.
  • Maintaining rigorous cost controls, early warning systems, and providing management reports.
  • Supporting procurement to ensure safety, timeliness, cost-efficiency, and quality.
  • Validating procurement expenditure, ensuring project delivery within budget.
  • Delivering contractually agreed cash flow, managing payment applications and assessments.
  • Negotiating contractual disputes and final accounts within DFA levels.
  • Mentoring junior commercial staff.
  • Undertaking other duties as requested.
Person Specification

Experience working in a finance or commercial role within engineering or construction, with hands-on experience as a Commercial Manager on large civils or infrastructure projects. Knowledge of finance systems, contract types, cost and budget management, and financial reporting at board level. Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

Qualifications

Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management accredited by RICS or CIOB. Minimum 5 years of Commercial Management experience as an SQS or QS with a proven track record in major projects.
