Role Overview
To assist in leading and managing the commercial team working within your allocated portfolio of multidisciplinary light rail projects (primarily within the Midland Metro Alliance structure - MMA), from inception through to final account and close out, to deliver maximum commercial results.
Person Specification
Working in a finance or commercial function within the engineering or construction sector with hands-on experience working for contractors as a Commercial Manager on large civils or infrastructure projects.
Working knowledge of finance systems and various forms of contracts.

- Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of Commercial Management experience as an SQS or QS with a proven track record in major projects.
Preferred but not Essential
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, develop, and train the commercial teams across your portfolio of projects, working with the Commercial Manager.
- Raise commercial awareness and embed commercial focus and best practices across each project team.
- Lead on all contractual matters from inception to close out, understanding the contract and its implications for profit delivery.
- Assist in preparing contract documents, including bills of quantities, specifications, and drawings.
- Manage the Risk & Opportunities process to identify risks and opportunities during tender and construction phases, ensuring contractual solutions and strategies are aligned.
- Set and manage budgets, ensuring all costs are correctly allocated into the relevant WBS.
- Establish and update robust project lifecycle cost forecasts monthly, monitoring against targets.
- Record all contractual entitlements proactively, ensuring timely notifications and accurate pricing of changes.
- Establish and maintain rigorous cost controls, early warning systems, and provide accurate financial data and management reports, including EVM.
- Support procurement to ensure project delivery is safe, timely, cost-effective, and of high quality.
- Validate procurement expenditure and ensure it is within the budget.
- Manage contractually agreed cash flows and ensure AFP submissions are timely.
- Ensure all valid supply chain payments are made per agreements.
- Negotiate and resolve contractual disputes and final accounts within DFA levels.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested.
