Overview

Senior Quantity Surveyor — Location: Barrow-in-Furness. Salary: Highly negotiable for the right candidate.

A leading contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to take commercial ownership of a major £60m project at a nationally significant submarine manufacturing facility in Barrow-in-Furness. The role involves managing all aspects of NEC contract administration, procurement, and commercial control on a technically complex, high-profile project. There is a strong pipeline of follow-on projects, offering long-term career progression. For candidates based further afield, weekly travel and accommodation is provided (Monday to Friday on site/office, returning home at weekends).

Please note: Candidates must be UK citizens and eligible for National Security clearance; dual nationality may not be accepted.

Responsibilities
  • End-to-end NEC contract management on a major £60m project.
  • Lead procurement, negotiation, and management of subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Prepare and agree interim applications, variations, and final accounts.
  • Implement robust cost control, forecasting, and commercial reporting processes.
  • Manage risk, value engineering, and change control.
  • Act as main commercial contact with client, consultants, and supply chain.
Experience & Skills
  • Proven Senior QS experience on main contractor projects £25m+.
  • Strong NEC contract knowledge.
  • Ability to operate independently and take full commercial ownership.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical, and reporting skills.
  • Experience with large construction projects is advantageous.
