Job description

Base location - Barnsley (Hybrid working). Regular regional travel is required.

Salary - £44,199 - £56,113 plus excellent employee benefits and career progression

Here's what you will be doing

The role holder will be responsible for the successful simultaneous commercial management of several Lighting and Grid projects from conception through to completion.

As part of the role you will drive Procurement processes along with the Design and Project teams to create a competitive supply chain with robust contracts, and then seek continual improvements.

Main Responsibilities

  • Advise the Project Manager in the best approaches to achieve a successful project outcome.
  • Seeking the best value for money to deliver a safe, quality service.
  • Managing contract placement - i.e. JCT Construction Contracts.
  • Managing external relationships without compromising E.ON's brand or values.
  • Creating and managing project commercial controls to ensure projects are delivered to budget.
  • Creating and managing project commercial controls with regards to internal and external service providers.
  • Advising on project commercial risks and potential delays, variation and project contractual issues.
  • Ensure all contractors and suppliers are fully approved, administering documentary evidence.
  • Seek new suppliers and contractors to continually improve the commercial competitiveness, while maintaining delivery quality and security of supply.
  • Prepare and lead the procurement plan for projects in line with the E.ON procurement strategy.
  • Assist in negotiations with suppliers and contractors as part of a multi-functional team.
  • Manage the preparation of contracts / pricing schedule for all types of contracts (GHW, NEC and JCT, and bespoke service agreements).
  • Provide contract support to the delivery team, to resolve conflicts with suppliers and contractors.
  • Analyse business practices and market conditions to evaluate bid responsiveness, contractor responsibility and performance.
  • Visiting contractor and supplier offices and sites.
  • Manage and ensure the carrying out of all quantity surveying duties including commercial control of projects, valuation of subcontract applications and invoices, and raising of internal invoicing. Cost analysis and cost performance reporting against budgets. Monitoring the performance of projects from a contract and commercial point of view.
  • Take a leading role on project performance relating to contractual, commercial and financial issues.

What we need from you

  • A degree in a commercial or quantity surveying subject.
  • Experience within the Highway electrical, Street Lighting and ICP sectors Civil Engineering, and EV.
  • Understanding of construction law with demonstrable experience.
  • Strong financial and commercial experience.
  • Strong management experience within a quantity surveying department.
  • Experience of specification writing and contract negotiation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal and influencing skills with the ability to take a confident and diplomatic approach with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong negotiating skills and an understanding of the commercial impact of their activities.
  • Numerical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and information and produce it in a clear and logical format.
  • A pro-active and creative approach to problem solving.
  • An ability to think strategically about supply chain relationships, to secure the best long-term results for the team.
  • Proficient in PC based computer systems and the ability to adapt quickly to changes to those systems.
  • Full driving license.
