Role purpose of Senior Quant Strategist within the ALM Team:

The ALM team is central to PIC's business, generating value through asset and liability management. It aims to optimize PIC's investment strategy aligned with the firm's risk appetite. The Quant Strategist develops, maintains, and enhances key quantitative models, including hedging infrastructure and portfolio optimization tools. The team comprises professionals from diverse investment backgrounds, and the Quant Strategist will develop and improve these models, working closely with other ALM teams to manage risks, drive transactions, and identify market opportunities.

Accountabilities:

  • Design, enhance, and maintain advanced quantitative models supporting PIC's balance sheet management, ensuring accuracy and robustness.
  • Lead improvements in bulk annuity pricing and implementation optimization models to support efficient portfolio construction and maximize performance.
  • Own key modeling initiatives, working independently and guiding junior team members in developing tools and methodologies for portfolio construction, asset selection, and risk monitoring.
  • Collaborate with the ALM and wider investment teams to contribute to strategic analysis and identify opportunities for improving balance sheet metrics and portfolio outcomes.
  • Contribute to developing the new quant platform by delivering modules and functions for stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Commit to continuous learning and development in technical and non-technical skills across the Investment Team.
  • Stay informed on industry trends, market developments, regulatory changes, and best practices related to SII by attending seminars, reading, and sharing relevant articles.

Requirements:

Knowledge:

  • Good understanding of fixed income products, derivatives, and LDI strategies.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, especially in derivative modeling like LPI.
  • Solid understanding of Defined Benefit pension schemes and Solvency II.
  • Familiarity with API usage, SQL, and modeling infrastructure integration.

Experience:

  • Proven experience in delivering complex modeling and analytical tasks with clear business impact.
  • Experience in a fast-paced investment environment, translating insights into decisions under tight deadlines.
  • Degree in a quantitative discipline (mathematics, physics, engineering); advanced qualifications (PhD, FIA, CFA) are advantageous but not essential.
