Job summary

Heidelberg Materials UK is recruiting a Senior Quality Control Technician for the Sizewell C project in Suffolk to lead testing of concrete and aggregates, both in the lab and on site. You will analyse mix designs, monitor materials, report findings, and ensure compliance with company and EDF standards while mentoring junior technicians.

Responsibilities

• Carry out laboratory and on-site testing of concrete and aggregates, including sampling, slump testing, compressive strength testing, and other quality assessments.
• Accurately sample, inspect, and test materials in accordance with approved procedures and industry standards.
• Analyse concrete batch tickets to verify compliance with prescribed mix designs.
• Monitor and assess incoming raw materials, including cement, limestone, sand, and admixtures.
• Investigate material performance issues and support corrective actions.
• Analyse test results and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare detailed technical reports for internal teams, contractors, and clients.
• Maintain accurate quality records, calibration documentation, and testing databases.
• Provide clear and timely communication of quality findings and recommendations.

Senior Quality Control Technician

Location: Sizewell C Project, Suffolk

Are you an experienced Quality Control professional with a passion for ensuring the highest standards in construction materials? Heidelberg Materials is looking for a Senior Quality Control Technician to play a critical role in supporting the delivery of the Sizewell C project.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled technical team where quality, safety, and operational excellence are at the heart of everything we do. You will be responsible for testing, inspecting, analysing, and reporting on concrete and aggregate materials while providing technical leadership and ensuring compliance with both Heidelberg Materials and EDF standards.

What You'll Be Doing

Quality Control & Testing

• Carry out laboratory and on-site testing of concrete and aggregates, including sampling, slump testing, compressive strength testing, and other quality assessments.
• Accurately sample, inspect, and test materials in accordance with approved procedures and industry standards.

Data Analysis & Reporting

• Analyse test results and performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare detailed technical reports for internal teams, contractors, and clients.
• Maintain accurate quality records, calibration documentation, and testing databases.
• Provide clear and timely communication of quality findings and recommendations.

Technical Leadership

• Supervise and mentor Quality Control Technicians, providing coaching, guidance, and technical support.
• Review and approve test results completed by team members.
• Promote best practice and continuous improvement across testing and quality processes.

Project & Stakeholder Coordination

• Work closely with EDF personnel, contractors, production teams, and quality managers.
• Support the investigation and resolution of product quality concerns.
• Participate in site inspections and field sampling activities.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with all stakeholders.

Safety, Compliance & Environmental Responsibility

• Champion a strong health, safety, environmental, and quality culture.
• Ensure full compliance with Heidelberg Materials policies, EDF procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Actively identify and report hazards, near misses, and safety concerns.
• Maintain high standards of housekeeping, site security, and operational discipline.
• Adhere to EDF's Code of Conduct and all project-specific requirements.

What We're Looking For

Essential

• Experience within a quality control, materials testing, concrete, aggregates, or construction environment.
• Strong understanding of concrete and aggregate testing procedures.
• Experience analysing technical data and producing detailed reports.
• Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality standards.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions.

Desirable

• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and testing methods.
• Supervisory or team leadership experience.
• Experience working on major infrastructure, construction, or engineering projects.
• Previous experience working within highly regulated environments.
