Job summary

GXO Logistics, Inc. in Birmingham seeks a Senior Health, Safety & Facilities Advisor to lead QHSE initiatives at the Merlin Park operation. You will support and improve ISO-aligned systems, drive audits, and promote a proactive safety culture on site.

The role is full-time, 08:00–16:00, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for peak periods. NEBOSH General Certificate and IOSH membership are required; contractor management and permit-to-work experience is advantageous.

• Experience leading HSE in large logistics or warehousing environments.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Facilities systems.
• Conduct internal audits, support external audits and monitor KPIs.
• Promote safety culture with risk assessments and incident investigations.
• Lead environmental and ESG initiatives and oversee training programmes.
• Coordinate facilities management, permits to work and contractor compliance.

Here at GXO, we're looking for a Senior Health, Safety & Facilities Advisor to join our shared-user site in Merlin Park, Birmingham. You will play a key role in supporting and enhancing our Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Facilities management systems across the Merlin Park operation. You will ensure compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and company policies, while driving continuous improvement initiatives and promoting a strong culture of safety and accountability.

Promoting and driving a culture of safety engagement in line with the Road to Zero philosophy and improving performance through the implementation of relevant management systems current standards and legislation; maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment by the identification and control of risks, leading to the prevention of accidents and causes of work-related ill health.

This is a full-time, permanent position working Monday-Friday, 08:00 - 16:00. Flexibility will be required to support peak periods and the evolving needs of a new operation - this is logistics after all!

What you'll do on a typical day:

• Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of Quality, Health, Safety, Environmental and Facilities systems, ensuring compliance with ISO standards, legal requirements and company policies
• Conduct internal audits, support external audits and monitor key QHSE performance indicators, helping drive continuous improvement and successful certification outcomes
• Promote a positive safety culture by supporting risk assessments, incident investigations, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective and preventive actions across the site
• Lead and support environmental and sustainability initiatives, including the collection and reporting of ESG data, while contributing to the delivery of safety inductions and operational training programmes
• Act as a key point of contact for facilities management, coordinating maintenance activities, managing contractor compliance and permits to work, and responding effectively to site issues and emergencies to ensure a safe and compliant working environment. emergencies to ensure a safe and compliant working environment

What you need to succeed at GXO:

• Proven experience leading Health & Safety within a large-scale logistics, warehousing or 3PL operation
• NEBOSH General Certificate qualified, with IOSH membership (or equivalent professional body membership); contractor management and permit-to-work experience would be advantageous
• Strong communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills
• Experience managing contractors, permits to work and compliance processes
