Job summary

Ocho is seeking a senior QA Engineer to lead test strategy across Belfast teams in a hybrid role. You will write test code weekly, build and own test frameworks, and set quality standards for the engineering groups.

As a hands-on engineer, you will test distributed systems running on AWS, GCP, and Azure, collaborating with Backend, Frontend, DevOps, Product and Customer Success to raise the testing capability across the organisation.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software testing or quality engineering.
• 2+ years leading test strategy for a team.
• Strong programming in Golang, Java, Python or TypeScript with production-grade tests.
• Experience testing backend services and APIs (REST/gRPC) and contract testing.
• CI/CD experience in containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and data-heavy systems.
• Degree in CS or SWE, or equivalent practical experience.
• Residence in Northern Ireland.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain fast, reliable test frameworks for services, APIs and UI.
• Define test strategies with teams and push coverage below the UI across unit, integration, contract and end-to-end levels.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines as quality gates.
• Treat flaky and slow tests as defects and drive them out of the pipeline.
• Write the testing standards, examples and documentation teams adopt as their default.
• Coach engineers in testing practice through pairing, code review, workshops and written guides.
• Review test and production code with a testing lens, giving clear and constructive feedback.
• Build test data sets and cloud test environments that verify the accuracy of security findings.
• Contribute to performance, load and reliability testing against measurable quality targets.
• Measure and report on escaped defects, coverage and pipeline stability to guide investment.
